Delhi IGI Soars to Global Top 10 in Busiest Airport Ranking

According to the most recent data given by the Airports Council International (ACI) for 2024, Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has been included among the top 10 busiest airports in the world, marking a significant milestone for Indian aviation. Total passenger traffic, which includes both local and foreign travelers, is the basis for the ranking.

IGI Airport, which handled more than 74 million passengers in 2024, took 10th place in the world. This accomplishment demonstrates Delhi's increasing stature as a major international travel center and is a significant advancement for India's civil aviation industry.

The busiest airport in the world, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the United States, topped the list. Dubai International Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport came next. Los Angeles International, Tokyo Haneda, and London Heathrow were among the other airports in the top 10.

Delhi's placement on the list is the consequence of significant infrastructural improvements and growing airline connectivity, in addition to a robust post-pandemic recovery in air travel. IGI Airport has greatly expanded its capacity, improved passenger comforts, and increased operating efficiency in recent years.

The rating has been praised by Indian aviation officials as evidence of India's rise to prominence as a major player in the world economy and travel. According to experts, India's standing in the world aviation rankings will be further enhanced by ongoing investments in airport infrastructure and rising air travel demand.

IGI Airport is predicted to grow considerably more in the upcoming years due to growing passenger volumes and expansion plans already in place.
