Swiss Air Aborts Flight Takeoff Over Engine Flames at Logan Airport

A Swiss International Air Lines flight was aborted after visible flames appeared shooting from the aircraft's right engine around 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday. The Zurich-bound LX55 flight was later canceled in light of events, and passengers were boarded onto a different flight. The security fiasco caused a temporary delay of approximately 5 hours. 

Video footage recorded unrealistic images of flames bursting from the aircraft (Flight LX55 to Zurich) during the takeoff. The in-attendence flight crew intervened, called off the operations, and taxied the aircraft. 

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a statement soon after the incident: “We will investigate the engine malfunction.”

Swiss International Air Lines also released a press statement (highlighting the nature of the incident and the operations carried out during the period): "We confirm there was a problem with the right engine of the aircraft. The Flight LX55 from Boston to Zurich experienced a technical issue during takeoff. All 223 passengers and 13 crew members were guided off the aircraft safely, and there were no injuries."   

Swiss International Air Lines highlighted that visible flames are often due to some technical engine issues. The airline issued an apology to all Flight LX55 passengers: We sincerely regret the inconvenience and time delay caused by the incident.
